The Russian Revolution

The Russian Revolution consisted of two revolutions: February and October (Bolshevik) which led to seize power and destroy the tradition of tsarist rule by the Bolsheviks.

The February Revolution began on March 8, 1917, and when most of the Petrograd garrison joined the revolt, Tsar Nicholas was forced to abdicate. The Duma formed a provisional government, which established a liberal program of rights such as freedom of speech, and the right to organize and strike. However, the government wasn’t able to cope with the major problems like the nationalist independence movement in non- Russian areas and the collapse of army morale at the front. It contributed to the October Revolution launched by Bolshevik Party led by Vladimir Lenin who returned from an exile in 1917. The Bolsheviks occupied strategic locations in Petrograd and Lenin became the dictator of the world’s first communist state. In late 1917 a civil war broke. The Red Army (Bolsheviks) fought the White Army (monarchists, democratic socialists) and ended in 1923 with Red Army claiming a victory and establishing the Soviet Union.

The Russian Revolution was one of the most important events in history. It paved the way for the rise of communism and it set the stage for the rise of the Soviet Union as a world power that would go head-to-head with The United States during the Cold War.

  1. Try to use your own words. A lot of your post sounds copied from an original source, rather than written by you.
